Currently in the short and sweet review period because of life, but this is a good’n. Lilia is a traveller – she strikes up relationships with people and then moves onto the next person, and, bit by bit, you wonder, and then are shown, why. Emily St. John Mandel is poetic when she writes, and while weaving all these snapshots together slowly, the writing is so lush that it can sometimes feel a bit much, but those moments are few and far between.
She’s just such a good writer. Like really good. It all flows so nicely and everything is so simply yet vividly described. It’s less my kind of plot than Station Eleven but the writing remains just as lovely.
